In 1956, Clare and husband Dennis Harris purchased a small butchery to service their hometown of Cheviot. Over 65 years later, Harris Farms is still going strong and is now synonymous with prime meat products produced and processed in Cheviot, New Zealand. Harris Farms products can be found in Foodstuffs supermarkets throughout the South Island of New Zealand.
The Problem
Harris Farms wanted to unlock a new supply channel with Foodstuffs South Island (FSSI). However, when they calculated the cost of distributing their product to that channel using their existing transport methods, they realised it was going to be too cumbersome and expensive.
Harris Farms learnt of FSSI’s cross-docking system that enables suppliers to efficiently send goods via their supply chain network. Harris Farms was concerned about the administrative overhead that comes with using FSSI’s vendor portal.
The Solution
Harris Farms elected to use Dock2Dock’s integration with Foodstuffs South Island to minimise administrative overhead when cross-docking. They are now processing and dispatching hundreds of cartons a day to this new channel and attest their operational efficiency to Dock2Dock. Harris Farms has recently rolled out license plating. This unique feature of Dock2Dock enables supermarket operators to easily identify the contents of each carton they receive - a capability Harris Farms was unable to offer their customers before.
"The software's user- friendly interface, coupled with its robust functionalities and features, has allowed our team to seamlessly manage and optimise the movement of our goods to our cross-dock partners."
Key Results:
- 100+ increase in number of supplied FSSI stores
- 1,000+ printed labels weekly
- 20% reduction in packing time from license plating
